Hold me closer, tiny pantser

This story told in honor of Adam Brecher and Steve Davolt:

So, last night I had a few people over for pancakes, because it was Shrove Tuesday, and that's what I do. People had a good but not raucous time; there have been Shrove Tuesdays, for example, that involved my guests belly-dancing. That did not happen this year. There was a mix of kids and adults, and many of the adults had a beer or two, but no one got too crazy, because it was a Tuesday night and we're getting older. It was really a very nice time.

But the line of the evening came as my last two guests were getting ready to go. One of my favorite former campers from Cabin 11 got to the entryway and said:
"Wait, what's this? Why are there tiny pants on my shoes?"

I do not at all know the answer to that question, but the tiny pants in question are now in my office.

If they are yours, you may claim them privately, or you may admit to having depantsed at a pancake supper in the comments.

I swear, I only had one drink. I do not know how someone was pantsless at my house and I did not notice it.

Is this more or less likely to happen on Shrove Tuesday than in general?

In my experience, mystery pants have shown up on 1 out of 37 Shrove Tuesdays, and 1 out of 13,674 other days. So, more likely on Shrove Tuesday, based on anecdotal evidence.

Do you make Irish pancakes (crepes) or "pancake" pancakes for Shrove Tuesday? We had the Irish pancakes--seeing as how my Dad is Irish. Just curious about your tradition.

Regular Bisquicky pancakes. Really good Bisquicky pancakes, actually. With loads of real maple syrup, because, NH.

The Irish in my family is both minimal and waaaaaaaaaaay back.

I would have loved your pancakes any day over the Irish pancakes. (Don't tell Dad) Especially with real maple syrup!

Hmmm. . .random pants incident. . .sounds more like a Fat Tuesday celebration. You people get crazy up there in the woods as winter is winding down, huh?

I'll let you know when I have any inclination that winter is actually winding down.

I'm really touched that you did that math.

As someone who regularly took her pants off in an office near you, I am offended that this article is not dedicated to me. I, for one, now my pants were tinier than Davolt's and Brecher's.

mike- Math? I've been counting.

Amanda- Your pants were never shrouded in mystery. That I know of.

So, if you find the pantser, and return the pants, and that person says "many thanks!," will that be pantzer tanks?
